NWOAL Championship Shirt Pre-Orders

2019 NWOAL Championship tshirt

The 2019 NWOAL hosts Bryan High School have sent information for pre-ordering shirts for this year’s NWOAL Championship meet.  Shirts come in a variety of colors, both short sleeve and long sleeve, and there’s also a hooded sweatshirt option.  Note that they will have very limited amounts of shirts at the meet, so if you want a shirt your best bet is to pre-order.

Orders can be placed online at https://nwoalxc2019.itemorder.com/

Also, when ordering please enter your school name (Evergreen) to make sure it gets to the correct coach/team.

*Parking Note – Do not go to the main park entrance. Parking is off of County Road 4 west of the park and should be marked.  There is a $5 charge for parking, and it’s a bit of a hike from the parking area to the starting line so plan accordingly.

8:15am – Bus leaves from HS (est. arrival 9:00am)
10:30am – High School girls race (Black Division)

11:15am – High School boys race (Black Division)

12:00pm – Middle School girls race
12:30pm – Middle School boys race
2:00pm – Estimated return to EHS
Meet Notes – This course is a perennial favorite.  It offers a little bit of everything: fast/flat first mile (for the HS), grassy and rolling second mile, and the third mile includes wooded trails, a water hazard followed by a steep hill, and a flat, open finish.  Most of our runners have been on this course before and will be able to give advice from their experience to the runners who haven’t seen it before.  Whereas last year was ridiculously hot, this year is currently set to be cooler and cloudy. Rain the night before will likely make the course a little muddy at points (especially the hill at the end), but the meet organizers usually do a good job of keeping the course in good condition.
Note – Bring extra shoes/sandals, socks, etc. if you don’t want to ride home wet.  There is a water hazard near the end of this race and you WILL get wet 🙂
From a spectator standpoint, here is pretty good viewing of the start, one mile mark (HS), and the finish (as well as “the hill” near the finish).  Most of the rest of the course is accessible, just be prepared to get some exercise!

Upcoming Schedule

Between school cancellations for fog, fair week and just our regular meet schedule, we’re in the midst of a little bit of craziness.  Here is a look at the upcoming Viking XC schedule:

Wed 8/30 – Practice 3:00pm at the high school (middle school optional if school cancelled)

Thu 8/31 – High school dual meet at Delta Reservoir. Bus leaves 3:30pm, girls will run at 5pm and boys around 5:40pm (there’s a possibility boys and girls will run together, in which case all will run at 5pm).  Middle school will meet after school for regular practice.

Fri 9/1 (No School) – Regular easy practice/team meal 3pm at the high school.

Sat 9/2 – HS in Otsego (details coming shortly)

Mon 9/4 (No School) – Optional practice at Lyons Community Park 7am. Early run to get ahead of any fair or other plans for the day.

Tue 9/5 – Practice at high school 7am. Holding practice early so that those who want/need to be at the fair can get their run out of the way before the day begins.

Wed 9/6 to Fri 9/8 – Regular practice schedule (team meal on Fri)

Sat 9/9 – HS in Tiffin, MS in Archbold (more details will be posted ahead of the meets)

$7 spectator charge

9:30am – Bus leaves from High School (est. arrival 11:15am)
1:30pm – Division III Girls Race
4:00pm – Estimated return time
Meet Notes – We are very lucky to be in the Tiffin Regional.  Tiffin hosts one of the largest cross country meets in the country every September, and a bit part of the reason is that the course is excellent.  Whether because of the course itself or because it’s at the peak of the season, this meet brings some of the fastest times for the runners. The varsity girls and coaches are admitted to the meet automatically; all other spectators pay $7 for admission. That includes our varsity boys team, however we are not only encouraging them to ride the team bus with us but the team will also cover their admission.  We expect these boys to qualify for this meet some day, and we want them to get exposure to the experience now.
Spectator Info – This is a fairly spectator friendly course. The start and finish are right in the same area of the park, with the finish actually circling the center field as they come in.  The final quarter mile or so is usually packed on both sides with cheering fans, so it’s a great experience for the runners. As is usually the case, if you’re ambitious and don’t mind some running, you can see the runners on several other parts of the course.  As mentioned above, there is a $7 spectator charge. They have concessions onsite as well as shirts for sale.
Parking – There is no parking at the park itself during the meet and only school transportation will be able to enter the park, so you’ll need to either park on the street (Summit or Coe), the YMCA (Summit) or the United Baptist Church (Coe).
