2020 Summer Day Camp Info

Our annual cross country camp will look a little different this year due to Covid-19. Instead of an overnight camp at Pokagon State Park, we will be hosting a 3 day camp at various locations in our area. You must complete your Finalforms Emergency Medical Form to participate.

Who: High School Cross Country Runners. We strongly encourage ALL high school runners to participate as this is a great way to get to know your teammates, build camaraderie, and learn more about the sport.  We do understand that many of our athletes work and may be unable to attend all 3 days and/or the entire time. If this is you, please communicate your situation with Coach Hesson or Coach Schwan.

When: July 28-30, 2020 (Tuesday-Thursday) 8 am- 4 pm. Lunch, drinks, and snacks will be provided

Where: Each day will have a different location:

Tuesday, July 28– Delta Reservoir

Wednesday, July 29– Secor Park

Thursday, July 30– Pokagon State Park

Friday, July 31– Movie Night/Bonfire (no day camp)

**At this time, Evergreen Local Schools is not providing out of season transportation. Therefore, parents/athletes will need to provide their own. If transportation is a concern, please notify Coach Hesson or Coach Schwan.

What to bring: Running shoes, running clothes, water bottle, sunscreen, lawn/camping chair, towel/yoga mat. On Thursday, please add your swimsuit, sandals/flipflops, beach towel, extra clothes, money (optional if you would like to purchase snacks at the beach).

Cost: FREE!

Parent Volunteers: We are in need of parents to help serve lunch and/or provide a dish/snack. If you are interested, please notify Coach Hesson.

The goals for camp include:

  1. To strengthen your relationship with your teammates and coaches.
  2. To establish a foundation of training for the upcoming season.
  3. To learn things you may have not known about yourself.
  4. To both have fun and train in a relaxed environment outside of your home.
  5. To be safe in everything you do.
  6. To set goals for your upcoming season.
  7. To learn to work together as a team.

2020 Cross Country Summer Runs

Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for…the summer run schedule!

The Evergreen Local School District has proposed a 3 phase policy to begin athletic activities based on the recommendations that follow the guidance distributed to Ohio Schools by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Athletes will be asked a series of screening questions  prior to the workout that will be recorded and stored in the athletic office for contact tracing purposes if a COVID-19 infection occurs.

You can download our group run schedule for June and July 2020 XC Summer Runs Schedule. These are voluntary runs open to high school athletes during Phase 1. During Phase 2, middle school athletes are welcome to join if they choose to. The sooner you start getting your body used to running, the better!

Phase 1- Beginning June 8

  • Athletes need to bring their own water bottle. There will NOT be a shared water stop.
  • Please use the restrooms before you come as they will not be open.
  • Gatherings will not consist of more than 10 people at a time (outside), to include all participants. Athletes must sign up during phase 1 (Link sent through Remind) to ensure we are not over the 10 participant limit.
  • Due to the limit of participants in phase 1 (no more than 10 people), the boys and girls teams will meet separately on different days and times.
    • The girls team will meet on Mondays at 8 am @ Metamora Park & Wednesdays at 8 am @ Lyons Park.
    • The boys team will meet on Tuesdays at 7 pm @ Metamora Park and on Thursdays @ 7 pm @ Lyons Park.
  • Student athletes will maintain appropriate social distancing of at least 6 feet between each individual at all times.

Phase 2- Beginning June 23

  • Gatherings can include up to 50 people outdoors for workouts.
    • Both teams- girls and boys will meet together on Sundays at 7 pm @ Lyons Park, Tuesdays at 8 am @ EHS, and Thursdays at 7 pm @ Metamora Park.
  • Athletes need to bring their own water bottle. There will NOT be a shared water stop.
  • Student athletes will maintain appropriate social distancing of at least 6 feet between each individual at all times.

Please make sure you sign up for Remind alerts (text @vikingxc to 81010) as we sometimes have to change locations. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Coach Hesson or Coach Schwan. We look forward to seeing you this week! #ComeRunWithUs #BeatYesterday #RUNEVG

Team Meals & Race Day Snacks!

It’s finally here….the team meal and race day snack sign up!

Team meals will take place in the H.S. cafeteria at 3:45 p.m. on Fridays before race days and are great for team bonding. Race snacks are great for replenishing our runners after they compete. There are a couple of sign ups for each meal/snack as a group of parents can share the team meal and/or race snack. Team meals include main dish, sides, dessert, and drinks. Pastas or any “carb loaded/high protein” dish would be nutritious for our runners. Suggestions for race day snacks include granola bars, peanut butter crackers, fruit, bagels, water, chocolate milk, Gatorade, etc. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Please plan for at least 33 people (20 HS & 10 MS + coaches). Thank you- your support is greatly appreciated!

*Please keep in mind we do have a peanut, kiwi, strawberry, banana, and egg allergy. We ask if you bring a mixed fruit dish that you keep a small portion excluding strawberries, kiwi, and bananas. Thank you!

Thank you in advance to our amazing supportive parents for fueling our runners!
